Vienna is a city where classical music is not just a part of history, but a living tradition. It is in this environment that the Metropolitan Kammerorchester Wien was created in 2008 – a chamber orchestra founded by violinist Ion Scripcaru together with young musicians in Vienna. The initial idea was to create a space in which the new generation of performers could gain orchestral experience and work with established musical personalities. The repertoire of the Metropolitan Kammerorchester Wien spans different periods – from Baroque music and Viennese classics to works from the 20th century and contemporary compositions. Over the years, the orchestra has performed works by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bartok, Britten and other composers. The history of the orchestra also includes some of the iconic concert venues of the Austrian capital. The Metropolitan Kammerorchester Wien has played in the Wiener Konzerthaus, and in February 2026 it will take to the stage of the Great Hall of the Musikverein with a program including Mozart and Beethoven. The orchestra's history is based on Ion Scripcaru, a violinist and orchestra leader who founded the Metropolitan Kammerorchester Wien in 2008. His professional path is closely connected to the Vienna music scene, and over the years he has been concertmaster of various Viennese ensembles. The combination of tradition and a new generation of musicians is one of the characteristic features of the Metropolitan Kammerorchester Wien. The orchestra does not limit itself to the canonical classical repertoire, but also participates in international and educational projects. Its concert in 2026 with the Majestic Jugendorchester Seoul at the Musikverein is indicative - a meeting between musicians from Vienna and young performers from South Korea. More than fifteen years after its establishment, the Metropolitan Kammerorchester Wien continues to develop the idea with which it began - to pass on the classical music tradition through new generations of performers, international meetings and various concert formats.
